Welcome to Me (Movie, 2014)
Off-beat Comedy | Indie-esque
Lead Cast: Kristen Wiig (Alice)
I like actress Kristen Wiig. I think she’s pretty great. Saturday Night Live? Bridesmaids? The Secret Life of Walter Mitty? (Don’t even get me started on the awesomeness of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty). Look, she’s done lots of films but like most actors they always sort of shuffle around the same basic character.
Wiig has a talent for comedy but also for the depressed, the odd, and the occasionally hilariously psychotic. So…yeah basically I wasn’t surprised by her performance in this movie but that doesn’t mean she didn’t do a great job with it.
Personally I’m not so sure I’d watch this movie again? I liked it for sure but it’s just not one of those movies I personally would be drawn to re-watching.
This movie’s description: “When Alice Klieg wins the Mega-Millions lottery, she immediately quits her psychiatric meds and buys her own talk show” (IMDB).
I mean once you read the description and especially if you’re familiar with some of Wiig’s previous acting credits then you won’t be surprised by the movie…at all.
Quirky, funny, weird, a bit depressing, definitely ridiculous…but mostly Welcome to Me is a quirky-funny-weird movie.
If you’re a Kristen Wiig fan then don’t pass over this movie but otherwise it’s a personal preference judgment call. Just watch the trailer and that’s basically the movie but shorter.
