BRN #22: ‘Tis Valentine’s Day ❤

Babbles, Rambles, & Nonsense #22

hearts

Today is Valentine’s Day. A day for couples to celebrate each other and a day for singles to either cry into their ice-cream or seize the night in wild defiance. But as for my blog this year I’m just going to stick with the obvious theme of…

Romance.

To be honest romance is pretty hit or miss for me so it’s not the first thing I look for in a book. Either a romance will come off as silly, unbelievable, or irritating to me, OR sometimes it will completely sweep me away. A lot of readers have their preferences (yay /nay love-triangles, yay/nay instalove, yay/nay [insert trope here]) but I can’t narrow down my feelings so simply. In general I am not a fan of love-triangles unless brief and fleeting, in general instalove doesn’t always bother me although it certainly can, in general I love slow burn romances unless it’s only slow because the characters are infuriatingly stubborn and/or dumb and/or the author is trying to make that word count goal, etc…. (Although the dark & mysterious love interest is almost always a time-honored cliché and a favorite trope of mine haha #notsorry).

I don’t know, I can’t precisely pin down what makes or breaks a romance story for me. There is no perfect formula. It either clicks or it doesn’t *shrug* So, what I’m going to do is keep this post brief and light and simply list 5 (romance) novels that I have enjoyed! ❤

  1. Honestly I haven’t read a lot of romance novels. But one romance that I did really enjoy reading about was the romance between Star Wars characters Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade. It was before Disney took over the reigns and declared all this stuff non canon. But Mara Jade was an amazing character that never made an appearance in any of the films, but was written solely in the books. She eventually got married to Luke which was an event in it self.
As for romance movies…Titanic..nuff said 😊😊

  2. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book!!! I love that it made your list 🙂

Also, I am the same way, I can’t draw hard lines in what I do and don’t like. In general I don’t like love triangles, but there are a few examples where it was done really really well and actually helped the story!

      1. Keira suits Lizzie so well and of course there’s Mr. Darcy!
The different worlds Wanda has been in was such interesting places you can’t help but read on! And I really love how the relationship between the characters developed too.

  3. OK we do have really similar tastes in romance! I’ve read them all and love them to pieces Pride and Prejudice aside (I watched the movie). Radiance was such a surprise as the cover is… ugly but the inside is just fantastic!
