One-line Reviews: Summer 2023

Although I’m still on hiatus, it’s simply impossible for me not to share my thoughts on the books I read apparently haha so to compromise here I am offering a recap with this post of one-line reviews for some of the books I’ve read/finished so far this summer. It’s short and gets to the point so if you haven’t been a fan of my usual sprawling review style then this is the complete opposite. If you do prefer my lengthier posts then you’ll be excited to know that a few books not on this list will have their reviews shared one a day for the next few days with a more in-depth spotlight.

Follow me on Goodreads if you’d like to keep up with all of the books I read, reviewed or not!

Fantasy | An epic combination of new and familiar with Throne of Glass vibes in all the best ways.

*I finished the entire trilogy and it stays epic through to the end!

Fantasy | A wonderfully relaxing yet enchanting low fantasy perfect to pair with a cozy blanket, cup of tea, and soft falling rain.

YA Fantasy | An all in all pretty solid seafaring YA fantasy that not only has me curious for part two but also managed to keep me from overly thinking about just how disgusting everyone must be living on the sea lol.

YA Dystopia | An intriguing look into Four’s story before he met Tris, then when he met Tris, and honestly I’m always down to get into a love interest’s head and this didn’t disappoint!

*I maintain that the Divergent series is a duology because that third book was so bad I refuse to accept its existence lol.

YA Dystopia | When I found out it was a Wattpad book everything, including its regurgitated story made from past best sellers and its absolute lack of logic and editing, made a lot more sense.

Historical Fiction | A snappy story intertwining then and now, comics and films, humble beginnings and Hollywood lights, audience expectations and blunt realities (and if you don’t naturally read this in Tom Hanks’ voice from the get-go I’ll be shocked).

Fantasy | Not what I expected but nonetheless an adventure with that classic Grimm essence woven into its bones.

Fantasy | A dark and gritty fantasy x fae-like vampire world that is somehow familiar, just on the tip of my tongue, yet simultaneously wholly new.

YA Historical Paranormal | A fun historical mystery with a supernatural twist spun from all the horror classics…and their clever daughters.

YA Contemporary Fiction | Basic, unsurprising, honestly a bit annoying, and very L.A.
