Thank you Inge @ The Belgian Reviewer for tagging me to take on this post! It was a lot of fun to put together (I tried my best to spit out answers and not think about it but some of these were hard to do that with!)
eBooks or physical books?
Paperback or hardback?
Hardback (but Paperback for travel because they’re smaller and I can squeeze more in my bag)
Online or in-store book shopping?
In-store for experience (but Online for price)
Trilogies or series?
Trilogy (I like a beginning, middle, and end, just like Aristotle 😉 …unless it’s Harry Potter or Narnia of course)
Heroes or villains?
Both. Villains if they’re complex and interesting and mysterious, but Heroes if they’re the interesting ones.
A book you want everyone to read?
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness (and then read the rest of the trilogy)
OR Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (and then read the rest of the duology) 😀
Recommend an underrated book
Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness. It’s gaining a bit more popularity over here (especially with those hopeful movie announcements) but most people have never heard of it and they really really should.
The last book you finished?
The Girl with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke (DNF The Amarant and I’m currently reading Stalking Jack the Ripper)
Weirdest thing you used as a bookmark?
Well none of it is weird to fellow booknerds but stuff like tissues (clean of course), receipts, origami, hair tie, used plane ticket, a shoe-less shoelace, etc.
Used books, yes or no?
Top three favorite genre?
Fantasy, Science Fiction, Psychological Thrillers
Borrow or buy?
Borrow (unless it’s awesome in which case I’ll buy a copy for my bookshelf)
Characters or plot?
BOTH. PLEASE. I’ve read books where I cared absolutely naught for what was going on but I’d become so attached to the characters that I just needed them to be okay. I’ve also read books with really intriguing plots but felt nothing for the characters. These books can be good but they’ll never be great.
Long or short book?
Medium. Short books are fine so long as they’re written well and Long books are great too but I prefer books that settle within the 300-400 page range because it’s long enough to feel like a journey and take me some time to get through but not so long that I hesitate to pick it up for another read just because I know how long it’ll take to get through it.
Long or short chapters?
Name the first three books you think of.
- A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas (I’m really scared to see who is going to die because we all know she’s going to kill at least one person we love. Ugh. The anxiety! Why can’t authors write happily ever afters anymore?)
- Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves (I just won a Goodreads Giveaway for this book so I’m excited to see if it lives up to the hype)
- Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco (I just bought this book a couple of days ago because a dear friend of mine insisted we couldn’t leave the store until I’d bought it because she enjoyed it so much)
Books that make you laugh or cry?
Our world or fictional worlds?
Audiobooks: yes or no?
No. They’re terrible, they don’t keep my attention, and they’re terrible. (I do like those British radio plays I’ve heard occasionally where actors read for the different characters (some double up parts and that’s okay, there are a few sound effects, and a narrator if need be. Those are entertaining, but regular audiobooks? NO THANK YOU. Although I do listen to the Harry Potter audiobooks if I’m struggling to fall asleep, his voice is perfect for reading stories)
Do you ever judge a book by its cover?
Yes. If I don’t like the cover then I doubt I’ll read it or buy it. Despite the well known maxim, you can usually judge a book by its cover (it’s also sort of the cover’s job…).
Book to movie or book to TV adaptation?
Book to Movie
A movie or TV adaptation you preferred to the book?
The 100 (TV Show), The Hunger Games (Movies), and I’m really happy with how the Harry Potter movies turned out although I wouldn’t say I prefer them to the books, they’re just lovely as well ❤
Series or standalone?
I really can’t pinpoint just a few people who I’d love to hear answers from so I’m inviting anyone with time and curiosity to participate! I hear such lovely comments from you all and I enjoy reading your posts so I’d be so happy to have you join in and share your own answers! I hope you’ll choose to play!
