Review

Plains of Sand and Steel (Uncommon World series) by Alisha Klapheke (2017)

YA Fiction | Fantasy
3.5 Stars

Plains of Sand and Steel is a companion novel, not a sequel, with new fierce characters. So whether or not you’ve read Waters of Salt and Sin you can dive into this book with no problem.

I hadn’t read any of Klapheke’s stories before but when I read the description for this book I knew I had to jump on board. The world-building was really interesting, detailed and filled with culture that really helped bring this fantasy realm to life. Overall she presented a really dramatic setting for her characters to thrive in. The story was easy to follow but exciting, and it’s something I hadn’t quite read before.

Klapheke crafts a unique world filled with searing plains, gut-clenching chances, and a sharp vengeance through it all. Unlikely allies face off against enemies who lurk just beyond the shadows and together they dominate this story, spilling blood and forging friendships as they face down their fate.

A world that is teetering on high stakes, rich in magic, and led by determined females, Plains of Sand and Steel is a one-book fantasy adventure that exhilarates and delights.

About the Author

Alisha Klapheke

Award-winning author Alisha Klapheke wants to infuse your life with unique magic, far-flung fantasy settings, and romance. Her inspiration springs from medieval art and artifacts, the world travel she enjoys with her husband, and the fantasy she grew up reading when she was supposed to be doing her math homework.

When she’s not writing, Alisha teaches Thai kickboxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and krav maga at her family’s dojo just outside of Nashville. That may be why writing fight scenes is her favorite.

Kathleen Rushall of Andrea Brown Literary Agency represents Alisha in all things books.
