Brace thyself for the beginning of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)!! I love books (duh). I love reading them, I love scouring the shelves for something old, something borrowed, something new, I love discovering new favorite authors, I love falling headfirst into a book I didn’t expect to enjoy, I love losing track of time and place as the words on the page whisk me away. I LOVE BOOKS!!
But sometimes I want to read something that hasn’t been written. A certain type of character, a certain genre-twist, a certain plot line, a certain world…these things sometimes get under my skin and it’s agonizing when no matter how desperately I search the stacks of books available in this day and age I cannot find that exactly certain something that I’m in the mood for. And that’s where NaNoWriMo comes in!
Whether you’re a serious writer chasing a career in the literary field, a fan fiction writer, a graphic novel creator, or you’re simply a reader with this unbearable itch for something not yet written, NaNoWriMo is for you! The challenge is to write 50,000 words in 30 days beginning November 1st which will hopefully be either a completed draft or a very solid start to your draft and from there it is up to you to finish and share it with the world (or hide in your desk forever but I for one hope you decide to share it with the world). Yes yes I know there are billions upon billions of books already in existence but I love books so much that I don’t care. I do not care and I encourage you to contribute to the absolute mountain of books on my TBR list.
And don’t worry, it’s free to sign-up and if you don’t succeed in the 50k word challenge there is no one who will shame you because hey, you just started a novel!!! And that is a lot more than most people can claim. This is a challenge that people attack with varying degrees of seriousness but regardless don’t forget to have fun.
This will be my fifth year participating and I’m very excited! I hope you’ll join me on the adventure! Visit https://www.nanowrimo.org for more info and to sign-up!
Cheers.
Good luck with it this year!!! I’m always so impressed by people who have a story in them to write :)))
