time for war.

“Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She’s finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam’s life.”

Book One: SHATTER ME

pooled ink Review:

This book takes all we’ve learned from the first one and explodes.

With Juliette and Adam out of Warner’s clutches they’ve found sanctuary in a rebel bunker called Omega Point and although it’s the last place they want to be, it might just be the place that saves them.

As they’re trapped in a hidden haven for people with supernatural powers Juliette stumbles and folds between all the agendas being pushed on her. Castle, the leader of Omega Point, wants her to train and help them fight against the Reestablishment. Adam wants her to stay safe safe safe. And Warner has not yet given up his plans to transform Juliette into a deadly weapon although now she’s not sure if that is all that he wants from her.

She was broken when the first book begins but she is growing stronger with every page and as the men in her life slowly give her the tools to mend her heart she also wakes up to how dependent she has become. She has grown strong enough to fight for the one thing she’s always wanted: freedom. And freedom is not just the absence of bars in the window, it’s finding your independence.

As Juliette slowly navigates her way through her rapidly changing reality she is forced to come to terms with powers. She’s always seen them as a curse but Kenji helps her view them as a gift. Kenji is probably one of my absolute favorite characters in this series. He’s snarky, understanding, and unashamedly honest. He’s the best “best friend” character I may have ever read or at least enjoyed reading. He put Juliette first. Did he want her to agree to Castle’s plans? Of course. But he made sure to put her wants first. He helped her train, he pushed her to figure out what she wants for herself, he stood up to the Omega Point members who shunned her, he fought against Adam when he became controlling, and he trusted her to be strong and smart and to know her own mind. Kenji was awesome.

If you fell head over heels for Adam (like I did) in Shatter Me then you might want to get a bit nervous. Fair warning. All he wants is for Juliette to be safe but Juliette is becoming braver and stronger and as she does the less she can be contained. Adam loves her but Juliette realizes that she needs space to figure out who she is and what she needs. She loves Adam but can’t keep up with his possessiveness when she’s only just starting to get an inkling of what she might be.

There’s a lot of drama in this book between those two. A LOT. And don’t worry, Kenji yells at them for it.

But typical couple drama isn’t enough for this book. Oh no. Instead: enter Warner. Yep, that’s right. Warner ends up in their clutches and his ability to be a cruel emotionless monster in the open and a lonely hearted boy in private causes Juliette’s head to spin. Warner sort of wedges himself into Juliette’s life causing a love-triangle but instead of being annoying (because I usually hate love-triangles) it simply keeps the plot on its toes. While Juliette struggles to sift truth from pretend, Omega Point uses their captor to their advantage. They’ve been waiting years for this war and now they just might have a shot.

Ugh there was so much drama in this book but oh my gosh I just can’t help being swept away by this book anyway! Not only do we watch Juliette’s character grow and change but we get to explore new settings and new characters as the world-building expands to show more of this world Juliette has been locked away from. And that ending! This book gets so intense!

I am incredibly eager to read the final book in the trilogy and I really hope it doesn’t disappoint!

Unravel Me strips away all the carefully crafted pretenses and motives of the first book and begins unspooling the fear that kept that broken bird and self-loathing monster in a cage to bare the heart of her and the true power she could wield. Gone is the Juliette who let others comfort her fears. Standing in her place is a woman who could shake worlds and just might be inclined to do just that.

Cheers.
