(Everybody get excited…or terrified…or totally unmoved if ya really want to play it that way.)
It’s that time of year! November 1st marks the beginning of, well, not only November but of National Novel Writing Month!
Sometimes it’s easy to procrastinate, come up with excuses, and just generally put off writing out that little idea that’s been festering in the back of your mind. Well whether or not you’re an aspiring author go ahead and use this month to write it out. Even if you never publish it it will feel amazing to say (even if only you know about it) that you’ve completed a full draft.
NaNoWriMo isn’t necessarily looking for a 100% polished and ready to go book (unless you’re a super author and can write a completed book that fast) and it’s seriously a no pressure situation. It simply provides a place for you to keep track of your daily word count, maybe meet other writers, join forums if you want, receive advice, help, or feedback.
It’s simply something fun to do.
If you finish a whole draft (or at least 50,000 words) by 11:59pm on November 30 then you’re a winner. If you don’t then you’re still that much closer to a novel and you can strut around knowing that you finally did something with that little plot idea of yours.
So whether you’re a little bit interested or gnawing at the bit go ahead and visit www.nanowrimo.org to check it out and hopefully get started!
Cheers.
