BRN #12: Places, everyone!

stage shadow hands

Some of you may know that I have participated in the NaNoWriMo challenge for two years now (2015 & 2016). I took up the challenge last year because I needed something to give my mind a project with a deadline and participating brought me some sanity. I decided to accept the challenge again this year because it seems it makes an excellent motivator for me and my writing. Anyway, I was sitting here musing about my book and thought I’d share a few thoughts with you.  Continue reading

NaNoWriMo 2016

NaNoWriMo

National Novel Writing Month

Congrats everyone! We are halfway through November! I hope you’ve been joining in with the NaNoWriMo challenge this year and even if you haven’t it’s still not too late to join! Always remember that this is for fun, okay? NaNoWriMo challenges all of us writers to complete a project or try to reach 50,000 words by the end of November, but even if you don’t quite reach your goal it’s honestly the attempt that counts.  Continue reading

YALLfest 2016

YALLfest banner 2016.jpg

This year I was lucky enough to go to YALLfest in Charleston, SC with a couple friends! We’d never been before but I was super excited to hang out and meet my favorite authors. There was a huge turnout for the event and while that was exciting it also meant very long lines. There were so many authors I wanted to meet but I couldn’t carry all those books and I knew it’d be next to impossible to have the time to see them all anyway so I managed to get my list down to 7 or 8 top authors. Well, did I mention how long the lines were? Yeah. They were intense so unfortunately I only actually ended up meeting 3.5 authors.  Continue reading

BRN #11: Presidential Dog Fight of 2016 for the Prized Bone called the U.S. of A.

Banner_babbles rambles and nonsense_11.png

I know I’m writing this last minute in the season but I just can’t keep my mind from endlessly spinning around this unavoidable topic. It plagues me on social media, traditional media, and even the people I see day to day. I can’t get away from it, but thanks goodness I am trained at holding my tongue. I’ve avoided publicly voicing my opinions because no one wants to hear another person’s opinions unless they align with theirs. We like to think we’re open-minded but more often than not we tend to be quite close-minded indeed, myself included. Anyway, I decided to write a little about what my cyclic thoughts have been pondering. This by no means encapsulates all of my thoughts or opinions but it’s a start and there is just something surprisingly therapeutic about voicing your thoughts…well, it’s therapeutic until some rogue who disagrees explodes in your face. I’m really hoping that doesn’t happen, but if it does, well, I’m sorry you have nothing better to do than spit on your neighbor.

What the heck do I know? Maybe very little. Maybe nothing at all. All I know is that I’m a 22-year old “legally blind” biracial woman living in a broken world who is afraid to give up but is also very tired of hoping that anything will truly change. This is just a few of my unasked for thoughts on the United States of America’s presidential election of 2016. Read at your own risk 😉

BRN #10: YA Fiction as You Grow Older

book come to life

Do you ever genuinely picture yourself in the books you read? Whether as a bystander, a co-star, or even the protagonist? Have you ever really wondered or wished for what life might be like if you could truly step inside a story? …maybe I was just a weird kid.  Continue reading

Kurios

Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities
Cirque du Soleil

kurios-show

ATLANTA, GA – April 30, 2016

For the first time in my whole life I got to finally see a Cirque du Soleil show. My brother bought us tickets as a gift for my 22nd birthday and he couldn’t have chosen a better gift. I’ve been highly anticipating this show since my birthday in March! I’m actually amazed he thought of it really. I mean, I love Cirque du Soleil but I’m also a Theatre major and so my brother and I operate on slightly different planes (he’s not into musicals, theatre, overly arty stuff, etc.). Actually he did admit to me that he had no idea what to expect because Cirque du Soleil just isn’t his scene. But he bought us tickets and took me to see them anyway.

I’m really glad I got to go with my brother, and him knowing nothing about it made it even better. It was mind-blowingly fantastic for me, but for my brother, well, his world was shattered, in a good way.  Continue reading

One of many film students at my ol’ University has some project about the move theater and shared his survey via Facebook. So I filled out and then thought maybe some of you would find it fun to fill out too!
Here is his official survey: https://survey.zohopublic.com/zs/8XDXT7
I decided to share my own answers below!

Top Ten Books Read in 2015

Banner_top books and series

I hate when people ask me what my favorite book is because that is utterly impossible to answer! More than that I can’t even come up with a list of favorite books because the order in which I love them changes depending on where I’m at in life, when I last read it, or even what I had for breakfast (well, you get the point). So, with all of that said I did try my best to come up with a few “Top 10” lists for you all and feel free to comment below with some of your own favorites and any suggestions you have for me to read in 2016!  Continue reading
