Top Ten Books Read in 2015

Banner_top books and series

I hate when people ask me what my favorite book is because that is utterly impossible to answer! More than that I can’t even come up with a list of favorite books because the order in which I love them changes depending on where I’m at in life, when I last read it, or even what I had for breakfast (well, you get the point). So, with all of that said I did try my best to come up with a few “Top 10” lists for you all and feel free to comment below with some of your own favorites and any suggestions you have for me to read in 2016!  Continue reading

BRN #7: YA Fiction | why i love it so

Banner_babbles rambles and nonsense_7.png

Young Adult (or simply YA) fiction has grown into something beyond a mere age-regulated genre. It has always held gems of literature but over the past few years in particular we have most certainly witnessed an explosive growth within and of this genre. I doubt anyone can pinpoint any one reason why but the greater point remains that it has.

YA encompasses every genre under the sun including fantasy, sci-fi, fiction, non-fiction, romance, paranormal, crime, mystery, history, thriller, and yeah every other genre that blooms on this here planet. While the protagonists remain in the teenage/young adult age range (hence the category title “Young Adult”) the themes transcend age and the messages strike intrigue and conflict within all.  Continue reading

Stop #4: Little Shop of Stories in Decatur, GA

This Fierce Reads tour featured an amazing group of YA authors: Leigh Bardugo, Josephine Angelini, Leila Sales, and Emma Mills! (read more about them and their new books below! Plus I added a bonus Q&A!)

These ladies are not only fierce but they’re incredibly funny and genuine people. I particularly enjoyed the last question of the night as I felt that each author really had something valuable to share.  Continue reading

The Hogwarts Library

Hogwarts Library by J.K. Rowling
hogwarts library
Academic | Fantasy
5-stars

First of all how awesome is it that Rowling decided to actually indulge us Potterheads and write and publish (albeit short) versions of a couple textbooks mentioned in the Harry Potter series? Not only is it cool to have copies of these books just like other Hogwarts students but it’s fascinating to learn so much more about the wizarding world. It just goes to show how much thought and creativity Rowling really put into her books. Magical creatures merely mentioned some time in some book in a section you can’t quite remember specifically are expounded upon in her, I mean Newt Scamander’s, book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The sport of Quidditch is not merely a fun part of the books but it becomes fully actualized and explained in Rowling’s, sorry I mean Kennilworthy Whisp’s, book Quidditch Through the Ages. To top it all off JK Rowling donates the proceeds of these books to Comic Relief (“UK-based charity that strives to create a just world free from poverty”) and Lumos (a charity founded by JK Rowling to “end the institutionalization of children”).

BRN #2: The August Theory: August Doesn’t Exist.

Banner_babbles rambles and nonsense_2.png

Every once in a while I may post a random blog post about something random but probably linked to books or TV/movies or both as the description of this blog itself contains the word “babble.”

Today I’m finally venting on the utter confusion instilled in me as a child when I saw the first Harry Potter film and read the first Harry Potter book: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
