pooled ink Review:

Thank you to the author for submitting this book for review!

Thank you Tonya Coffey for sending me a copy of your latest novel for an honest review!

This book wastes no time getting started. Opening with action and a surprising link between Clytie, a Valkyrie, and Storm, a shape-shifter, the plot charges forwards setting numerous choices and consequences into effect.

While this world was vast, fantastic, and quite imaginative as far as the characters go, I felt that there was not much character development beyond realizing that they were in love. And that sudden light-bulb realization happened to a lot of the characters in this story. That’s fine because it’s a romance but it did rather shorten the character arcs.

The plot was adventurous but felt a bit rushed at times. There were plenty thrilling action-packed scenes but not as many breather scenes that might allow the characters to really grow. A good story idea but yeah, perhaps a bit rushed.

Coffey is a highly imaginative writer and I applaud her ability to come up with such interesting worlds and characters. Rogue certainly delivers when it comes to high fantasy and romance. So while overall this was a good story I just wish the author would have slowed it all down a bit and allowed the characters to have time to explore their world, unravel the mysteries of one another, and wrestle with the fates cast upon them whether it be love, leadership, loyalty, or war. It just would have been nice to tease it out a bit. Let these realities soak in and really be explored further. It’s okay if the story wanted to center around soul mates rather than some slow-burn romance, but there still needs to be some sort of exploration of character as they are separate and united.

Good job, though! It was definitely entertaining to read!

Promise of war, the hunt for the rogue Valkyrie, and an excruciating choice between love and duty, Rogue presses forwards ruthless and bound by the ties of love.

Cheers.
